Physician readers of Holistic Primary Care—News for Health & Healing will now be able to obtain continuing medical education credit through a series of didactic modules on nutritional medicine. The first unit, covering natural approaches to managing dyslipidemia and cardiovascular risk, is found on page 7. The debut of the CME series is in conjunction with the launch of the publication’s website: www.holisticprimarycare.net.
The CME series is a collaboration between Holistic Primary Care and the American Board of Holistic Medicine (ABHM). Content for the nutrition modules is drawn from the curriculum for ABHM’s certification course entitled, “The Art, Science and Practice of Holistic Medicine.” Each module in the series is accredited for 1 unit of category 1 CME credit by the University of Minnesota’s Center for Spirituality and Healing. The lipid management module is made possible through an unrestricted educational grant from Lonza Group.
The goal of the series is to bring nutritional therapies into the front line of prevention and treatment for common chronic conditions like diabetes, heart disease, headaches, arthritis and autoimmune diseases, women’s health concerns, and cancer risk management. Recognizing the fact that conventional medical training offers little in the way of education in nutrition, we hope to close this gap by providing practical, scientifically-grounded information that will help physicians incorporate nutritional therapeutics into their daily practices.
We welcome readers of Holistic Primary Care to take advantage of our CME program and to benefit from the vast store of knowledge provided by the ABHM and the University of Minnesota.
